HYPNOSIS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What you wanted to know but were afraid to ask...

What is Hypnosis?

It is a relaxed state of consciousness; a state of focused concentration, which by-passes the critical factor of the mind. The Critical Factor is the conscious part of your mind that tries to keep everything the same, thinking it is keeping you safe.

Hypnosis is a natural state; we go into the hypnotic state several times a day; including when you daydream or when you’re getting ready to fall asleep. It is that part of your mind that drives you home when you have no idea how you got there. When you become part of the movie you're watching, the book you are reading, you are in the hypnotic state.

It is a gentle form of relaxation that opens up the subconscious mind to lifelong changes that you want to make. Hypnosis gives you the ability to stick to your goals, so you become healthier- mentally and physically. Letting go of unwanted negative behaviors and altering your state of mind to a more positive one.

You have successfully hypnotized yourself in doing things you no longer want to do, so now you have the power to change those behaviors into what you want, living the life that you desire.

Will I cluck or dance like a chicken?

YES if you want to….Just kidding, NO you won’t.

Will I be under a spell/trance that I can’t get out of?

We go into a state of hypnosis all day long; it is the day dreaming state.  All you have to do is open your eyes.

I'm too strong will to be hypnotized?

Hypnosis isn't a "battle of wills." You are always in control. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, I just facilitate the process.

What if I can't be hypnotized?

Hypnosis can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do. If you want to make changes, you can give yourself permission to relax and let it happen.

What if I fall asleep?

Your subconscious mind is still listening to all the suggestions.

Will I say or do something I don't want to

No, you are in control at all times. There is a misconception about hypnosis, in that it leaves you in a state where you aren't in control of yourself. The opposite is true. Hypnosis requires a lot of focus and concentration, which helps you maintain better control of yourself and your emotions.

What should I expect in a session?

We will sit down for a while and just talk, so we can get to know each other better helping you to feel more comfortable. I will then go over what hypnosis is and most importantly what it isn't. Lots of people have seen stage hypnosis and have some fear around hypnosis because of it. However, clinical hypnosis is nothing like stage hypnosis. I have addressed above some of those questions, but will go over any others questions or concerns you may have.

I will have you fill out some basic client information and then go over a questionnaire with you. This will include the things that you want to change, what have you done in the past to change, how you want your life to be in the future, etc. I want to discover the things that are blocking you, not just the symptoms.

Then I will have you get comfortable in the recliner, (and it is really comfortable...), put on a headset and glasses (if you like). There will be music and my voice while you are relaxing. You will always be in control, there is no fear "of going under." In the daydreaming state, you can open your eyes anytime you want.

The session usually takes 25 minutes. You will be relaxed and feel wonderful.
